Mark
Wambold
Teaches
West Coast Swing, Couples and Line Dancing. He started
learning line dancing more than 15 years ago and has
not stopped dancing or learning. Some of the line
dances he enjoys sharing are The Stetson, Cowboy Boogie,
& Boot Scootin’ Boogie. More than line dance—he
loves Patterned Couples Dances and can be seen out
most weekends with his close friend and dance partner
Diane. Couple’s dances include the El Paso,
Shadow, Side Kick, and Blue Rose. He will often teach
a dance to more than one song to help students learn
the many possibilities of doing a dance to different
styles, and rhythms.
Mark started West Coast Swing after seeing someone
do the dance. Years ago—this dance was seldom
seen on the east coast and no one was teaching the
dance in this area Mark started teaching himself how
to do these intricate moves that take place in a slotted
dance position. A friend agreed to be his partner
but Mark had to learn all of the female “follower”
parts as well as the male “lead” moves
by himself—then teach them to his partner who–lucky
for him-was a quick study.
Nowadays you will get glimpses of West Coast Swing
on the dance floors of Delaware & Maryland—although
it is still not as popular here as East Coast Swing.
Ten years ago when Mark and his partner hit the dance
floor—no one in these parts had any idea of
what this amazing looking dance was. He could not
go anywhere without someone asking if he would teach
them what he knew so he began sharing his skills with
others. He likes teaching and enjoys sharing his love
of dance and will be teaching at Delaware Tech’s
Terry Campus.
